Every once in a while, a surprising artist transforms a party with their performance. This was the case with Jeffrey Jerusalem, a young man from Portland who played a set at a YACHT after party I attended in San Francisco. It was a short set, maybe around 30 minutes, but as soon as he started the party became the most exciting it had been all night.
After hearing the performance I had to find more of his music. I found that he has a full length album out titled “Grimace” and it features some of the songs that I heard that night. The LP seems to have come out at some point in 2009 but was actually just added to iTunes on April 20, 2010. Jerusalem’s sound is very electric, using a variety of electronic instruments, samples, and other good stuff that reminds me of Girl Talk.
Just like he was able to do the other night his album does a nice job at getting you up and off your ass. The one thing that is missing from the album was the vocals that he was demonstrating during his performance. He performed every song in the middle of the crowd rocking out with his microphone, but on the LP the lyrics of the songs are mostly sampled. Either way I think you’ll enjoy what Jeffrey Jerusalem has to offer if you’re looking for a party.
Here are two tracks from his LP “Grimace.” The first is “Disco Drymouth,” and the second is “If Not Me, Someone Else,” which is Jerusalem’s take on a popular song by the artist Fergie.
